Event Description:

CHRISTMAS AT THE MAXEY HOUSE

Join us at the Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site on Saturday, December 8, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. to participate in Christmas at the Maxey House, which focuses on the Longs’ Christmas traditions this year. Sam Bell Maxey Long is Maxey’s great-nephew, and he and his wife Lala inherited the home in 1908.
Visitors will step into the Longs’ decorated home as they are in the midst of celebrating Christmas just as World War I ends. Artifacts once belonging to the Longs will be on display throughout the house, helping to tell the real stories of their Christmas traditions and involvement on the home front during the war.
During the program, visitors will have numerous opportunities to participate in Christmas crafts and traditions as they explore the newly renovated historic house.
On December 20 from 6–8 p.m., Livingston the Lion will be at the Maxey House to spend an evening with all his special friends. During this event, children will be making Christmas-themed crafts and listening to ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, while waiting for St. Nicholas to arrive.
After St. Nicholas arrives, children can visit and have milk and cookies with him. Parents and guardians are invited to bring their cameras for photos. The cost for Livingston’s Visit with St. Nick is $5 per child and cash only for this event.
